Home Cinema Construction
I am planning to convert my detached garage into a home cinema room. Due to a new baby being born mid July and a few things to sort out around the house the start of this project has had to be postponed. Below are pictures of the garage before any work has been started.

This is the garage from the garden. It measures 6m deep by 3m wide. The roof sloops from about 2.5m down to 2m. Since this photo was taken all the ivy has been removed and a new solid door and lock fitted. |

The inside of the garage. The rear window is planned to be blocked in and roof and walls plastered. Note the bookcases that will be used to store my DVD collection. |
Work finally starts on conversion.
Over the Easter weekend I managed to gather some friends for the Saturday and start on the conversion. Stage one has been the replacement of the old asbestos corrugated roof. The old roof was stripped away, additional joists added for support and then bitumised OSB board laid with black corrugated sheets over the top. Whilst we were at it we took the opportunity of replacing the old wooden frame window with a UPVC double glazed unit that was left after an error in the house window replacement.
Original roof before work commenced.
Old roof removed.
New joists added to support new roof and allow plaster board to be added from inside. |
Old window removed and three courses of bricks removed to allow addition of UPVC double glazed unit. I had a spare unit left over from the house due to an error by the surveyor. Luckily the width was the same but was taller. |
Boards in place from the inside of the garage. New plaster board will be added from the inside with insulation for heat and sound proofing. |
UPVC window fitted and glass added. Ideally I would have liked to brick it up but a black out blind and curtains will have to suffice for daytime viewing. |
New roof with corrugated sheets laid. Just need to replace the ridge tiles on the front. |
Bricking up behind the garage door. Drainpipe behind for running of cables. |
Stud work started and waterproof sheet laid. |
Rockwool insulation slabs inserted between studwork for heat and sound insulation. |
First layer of plasterboard being fitted. |
Getting there! Walls painted. Wiring up to do next. |
Screen down. Checking it will clear the rack and bookcase that will behind it. |
Cinema Room finally finished. The room was completed in October 2005. The following photos show the finished room from various angles.
Now I am enjoying getting away from it all for an hour or two and relaxing with a great movie and a beer.
